Dahomey – literary a Pit of snakes was until 1990 the name of present day People’s Republic of Benin. This relatively smaller country has a marine coastline like Ghana. The majority of the population are the FONs.
17% of the 11.5 million population follow Voodoo worship. Before the Proliferation of Christianity the majority were Voodoo worshippers. They are known to be powerful because the practice was originally unadulterated with almost every home having a shrine. Even with Christianity, Christians including some leaders consult these Shrines for spiritual powers.
People in need of SIKADURO, power and influence flock to Benin in search of these Powers. Most of the rituals are shrouded in secrecy and deadly vows are made in exchange for these powers. Desperate people often do not adhere to the instructions after receiving the powers and evidently fall for the grave consequences.
Young People hungry for financial breakthrough, politicians, pray-for-me Miracle performing economic Osofos, Commercial sex workers, Sakawa people and other groups of people in need of fast powers are the patrons of this Voyage of mysteries.
Now carefully read this: Do you know that The People’s republic of Benin is one of the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) in the world just like Ghana? How come that they have supposed secret to financial breakthrough yet remain poor. How come that the shrines that are giving out the powers live in poverty and squalor. Did the House of Eli ever go hungry in the bible when they were fixing the sacrificial offerings? Members of these shrines that are considered powerful still have family members that cannot afford higher education and evidently are not relatively rich!
How can the Chief Cook’s family Starve someone may ask. Well, the issues with these shrines is that for every spiritual power you get, you need to regularly update it for potency and also the update is a mandatory part of the deadly conditional vows. It is obvious that once people have the breakthrough they slip and forget about the Vows they made to update and in no time consequences of the vows set which ends in bizarre DEATH(s).
So since the Voodoo Shrine knows the consequential side effect OF THE RITUALS do you think they will go selling their souls to the Devil?
Now you have the answer to why they get POOR whilst the Patrons get rich, powerful and influential but for a SHORT TIME only.
